Work
package 5 - Production of all-female populations and effect
on aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaproductivity
in intensive culture
Starting date: Month 7
Ending date: Month 24
Name of the partner responsible: ULG
Person-months per partner: Excelfish (3),
ULG (17)
Objectives
The objective is to develop a protocol
to produce all-female populations of pikeperch
using hormonally sex-reversed male breeders,
in order to improve the productivity and
to attain commercial size (2 kg) in a
shorter time.
Description of work
* production of
hormonally sex-reversed male breeders
* Production of all-female populations
with sex-reversed male breeders
* growth off all-female populations versus
mixed sex
Deliverables
The results of phase 1 of WP5 will be
presented in the 1st annual progress report
submitted on Month 13. Final report will
contain all information about the results
of phase 2 and 3 and practical recommendations
about the best way to produce all female
populations of a pikeperch.
Expected results and relevant
corresponding milestones
The major expected results of this work
package are:
- Determining the optimal doses and treatment
duration to obtain 100% sex-reversed male
breeders.
- Obtaining 100 % females when crossing
sex-reversed males with normal females
- Evaluating the productivity gain obtained
when rearing all female fish obtained
with sex-reversed male.
