         Partner 6 - Viskweekcentrum Valkenswaard
Viskweekcentrum Valkenswaard has a large freshwater hatchery with larval systems and ongrowing recirculation systems. Also the company has a 10 hectare area with earth ponds (23 pcs) part of them very well protected for bird predation. The company produces approximately 20 freshwater species for restocking purposes, fingerling production for other companies and ornamental fish and sells in the Netherlands as well as abroad.
The company is producing and selling pikeperch larvae and fingerlings for more then 5 years and has also conducted weaning experiments with dry feed. A part of the company facilities are dedicated to research and development for Coppens International, a year round research program takes place in 4 separated rearing systems, with larvae, fingerlings and bigger fish. Fresh and also saltwater species are used for this research program, ranging from trout, carp, eel, catfish, tilapia and seabass.
Viskweekcentrum Valkenswaard has gained a lot of experience in larval rearing and pond rearing of pikeperch fingerlings and is interested in participating in a research program concerning this species to further develop the market for pikeperch larvae and fingerlings. Participation in this project will be useful for the company to gain experience and knowledge to be used for its own production of pikeperch fingerlings for restocking purposes and possible future production for aquaculture use. At the moment, the production of pikeperch fingerling depends on pond production, because indoor fingerling production is still very unsure. Future aquaculture activities with pikeperch can represent new business for Viskweekcentrum Valkenswaard.
